November 8, 2023 (Moscow, Idaho) — Mayor Art Bettge is one of a record 99 Idaho mayors who participated in this year’s Mayors’ Walking Challenge, a program of the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health that promotes the importance of physical activity. Throughout the month of October, mayors are challenged to walk an average of 10,000 steps a day in order to earn $1,000 toward the funding of health and wellness programs in their cities.
Since becoming a statewide event in 2018, the Mayors’ Walking Challenge has helped Idaho mayors earn more than $355,000 toward a variety of projects and programs, including playgrounds, physical education equipment for schools, walking clubs, amenities at parks, and scholarships for youth programs. Out of the 99 mayors who completed the challenge, Mayor Bettge came in 56th place with 324,612 steps. The $1,000 he earned will be donated to the acquisition and planting of trees in Moscow City Parks.###Story Contact: Bill Belknap, City Supervisor
