February 8, 2023 (Moscow, Idaho) — On February 8, 2023 at 9:50AM, the Moscow Police Department received a phone call from a male suspect stating he was armed and planned to commit a shooting at the Moscow High School. While our dispatchers were still on the line with the suspect, Deputies from the Latah County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the High School and began to set up a perimeter. MPD units arrived shortly after and entered the school working with Latah County Deputies to quickly clear the building looking for active threats. NO THREATS were found inside the school and no one was injured.

As this was taking place, all other district schools were alerted and told to implement lockout procedures. Other schools in the City were also alerted to the threat. At this time, there does not appear to be an active, credible threat to our schools. Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the suspect phone call likely originated outside the State of Idaho. The investigation into this case will continue and updates will be given when possible.

The Moscow School District has now resumed classes for the day but are keeping students inside. Parents of students are directed to contact the school their child attends with questions regarding picking up your child.

The Moscow Police Department would like to thank the Latah County Sheriff’s Office and the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department for their quick response to this incident.
