Science on Screen: Hidden Figures
KPAC presents HIDDEN FIGURES as part of our Science on Screen® series, showcasing films with introductions by notable figures from the world of science, technology, and medicine. Hidden Figures tells the story of a team of female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program. This family-friendly film is a heartwarming celebration of the overlooked and crucial contributions of Black Women that we are proud to present during Black History Month.
Touring the Night Sky
Anthony Smith, Planetarium Presenter at WSU and Astronomy Educator from the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, will guide guests through a video Night Sky Tour. This immersive experience will take guests on a journey through the cosmos to locate stars, planets, and constellations visible from the Palouse on the evening of the screening! PDSC STEAM Educator Ariel Griebling will introduce the Sky Tour by giving a brief demonstration of how to use a Star Map. After the film, guests can try using Star Maps themselves, and we will provide these maps to all guests free of charge.
Sponsored by Science on Screen, Palouse Discovery Science Center, Innovia Foundation, Colter’s Creek and Idaho Humanities Council. An initiative of the Coolidge Corner Theatre, with major support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
