Pullman, WA : 10/25/2024— What would the Christmas season be without the retelling of  Charles Dickens’ timeless tale, A Christmas Carol? Have no fear; it will be here, as the  Regional Theatre of the Palouse (RTOP) will present SCROOGE! The Musical from  November 7th through the 17th

The embittered miser Ebenezer Scrooge has been a cultural icon for more than 180  years. A Christmas Carol was written by Charles Dickens in 1843. The story was  adapted by composer Leslie Bricusse in 1970 as the musical film, Scrooge. In 1992, the  movie morphed into Scrooge! The Musical. Clearly, in spite of its nearly two centuries of  life, it is a story that never gets old.

Who doesn’t know that Scrooge hates Christmas? Or that he doesn’t get a lot of rest, as he’s visited frequently in dreams. First up is the ghost of his ex-business partner, Jacob  Marley. Marley describes his horrible afterlife and he warns Scrooge that the same fate  awaits him if he does not change his ways. More ghosts arrive in the form of Christmas  Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet to Come. They’re about to turn a bitter old  man into a better new man and, in a nutshell, that’s Scrooge! The Musical

The lively score includes “A Christmas Carol,” “I Like Life,” and the real crowd-pleaser, “Thank You Very Much.”

This holiday season, a group of talented local performers who got their start in musical theatre at RTOP are taking their next big step with professional teaching artists from New York and Pittsburgh in RTOP’s main stage production of Scrooge! The Musical. Director Michael Todd says, “The journey these individuals have taken is truly special. Many started in their youth as summer campers, learning the ropes in a fun, supportive environment and now, they’re back on the same stage, with greater opportunities to shine in a full-scale musical!”.

RTOP’s production of SCROOGE! The Musical is directed by Michael Todd. Community board member Tina McClure is musical director; WSU graduate Gavin Hamilton is choreographer. Costume design by lifelong theatre professional RTOP’s Executive Director and Producer John Rich.
