Beginning this month, families with children age 0 to kindergarten can register at any branch of the Latah County Library District for a new early literacy initiative, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.

Early literacy skills have a lifelong impact on educational and occupational success. With this program, parents will read 1,000 books to their newborn, infant, toddler, or preschooler before they enter kindergarten. Rereading a book counts toward the final goal.

Visit latahlibrary.org to register. 100 Book Logs are available at the library, or as a download on the library website. The first 100 families to register receive a branded tote bag, a paperback picturebook & their first book log. Children will celebrate each 100 book milestone with a small prize and an addition to a reading mural.

Dates for open registration may vary. Check your local branch for details. This program is free and open to the public. Funding provided by the Idaho Commission for Libraries and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. For more information or contact Stacie Echanove at staciee@latahlibrary.org.
