Palouse Pathways is hosting a Path to College Night

Palouse Pathways, a local non-profit providing resources around higher education, is hosting a free “Path to College Night” for Ninth and Tenth Grade Families from 7:00-8:30 p.m., Wednesday August 24 at the 1912 Building in Moscow.  Palouse Pathways has been hosting Path to College since 2017 and is happy to return to an in-person event after two years of virtual programming.  The organization plans to host a similar event in Lewiston in the fall.

Peggy Jenkins, director of Palouse Pathways, says that “the goal of talking about college early in high school is to reduce stress and anxiety.  We’ll give families a timeline for some of the important college preparation events that will occur during the high school years and tell them about some great options for paying for college.  But we really want to send the message that the best way to prepare for college is to make the most of high school.”

Path to College will feature a panel discussion with favorite middle and high school teachers from Genesee, Moscow, Pullman, Colton and Palouse.  They will give tips for staying organized, making friends and choosing clubs and interesting classes.

Palouse Pathways will be providing free pizza and drinks and will give free gas cards to the first forty families who arrive.  There will also be a drawing for two $50 dollar WinCo gift certificates.  Jenkins says that the financial incentives are being offered to encourage families on a tight budget to attend.  “There are programs and opportunities to help lower income and first-generation student attend college and we want to make sure that that families know about them!”
