Living Voices: "Fly For Freedom"

The Latah County Human Rights Task Force and Latah County Historical Society are co-sponsoring a Living Voices performance, “Fly For Freedom: Home Front / War Front,” at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, in the 1912 Center’s Lecompte Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public. This Living Voices performance will combine a dynamic solo performance by Ayo Tushinde with archival film to transform history into a moving, personal journey.

“Fly For Freedom” celebrates the unsung heroes of World War II as it deals with the questions: who were the real “Rosie the Riveters?” and how did Black Americans fight for democracy on two fronts? The story focuses on Antoinette and her family who join the millions of Black Americans serving their country in the defense industries while bravely confronting racism, sexism and fascism on every front.

This program was developed in partnership with the Museum of Flight, Museum of History & Industry and The Boeing Company.
