April 24, 2025 (Moscow, Idaho) — The City of Moscow will participate in the 2025 City Nature Challenge (CNC): Palouse Region, an international biodiversity documentation effort scheduled for April 25 to 28, 2025. The CNC, which began in 2016 as a collaboration between two cities, has expanded to involve over 600 cities globally.

The event encourages public participation in documenting wild organisms (plants, animals, fungi, seaweed, bacteria, lichen, etc.) within Whitman and Latah Counties. Participants are asked to photograph these organisms and upload their observations via the iNaturalist app. The collected data contributes to scientific understanding of global biodiversity patterns.

Participation Guidelines:

1. Download and create an account on the iNaturalist app.

2. Locate wild organisms within Whitman or Latah Counties.

3. Photograph wild organisms, avoiding images of people, pets, and cultivated plants.

4. Upload the photographs as observations to the iNaturalist app.

5. Identifications of submitted observations will contribute to knowledge of local species diversity.

Observations recorded in Whitman or Latah Counties between April 25 and April 28 will be included in the CNC: Palouse Region results. Additional information about the CNC: Palouse Region is available at [//www.palousecd.org/city-nature-challenge]www.palousecd.org/city-nature-challenge.

Individuals can also join the iNaturalist project for the CNC: Palouse Region at https://tinyurl.com/yc8canrp. Participation in this specific project is not required; all iNaturalist observations meeting the date and location criteria will be counted.

The City Nature Challenge: Palouse Region is organized by the Palouse Conservation District. The City Nature Challenge is an initiative of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and the California Academy of Sciences.
