United in Community, a newly formed Moscow coalition of organizations dedicated to building bridges, creating connections and preserving democracy, will sponsor a free, open to the public 4th of July Picnic at East City Park on Saturday, July 4 from 1 to 4pm. All interested in taking part are asked to bring their own picnic food and drink and the sponsors will provide free ice cream and popsicles, games and music. The goal of the event is to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with joy, comradeship and activities for all ages.
Nine organizations currently making up the United in Community Coalition are Braver Angels, Indivisible, Inland Oasis, Latah County Human Rights Task Force, Moscow Interfaith Association, Moscow League of Women Voters, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Palouse and the United Church of Moscow. It is anticipated that more organizations will be added. The purpose of United in Community is to facilitate communication, collaboration, and support with the goal of enhancing a united Moscow and protecting our democratic institutions. The coalition also plans to share in the development of events such as the Fourth of July Picnic that will bring people together to strengthen the bonds of community and celebrate our common ground.
